Peter Kenneth's Bid for Nairobi Gubernatorial Seat Splits Uhuru and Ruto Teams

It has now emerged that Peter Kenneth, who is eyeing the Nairobi governor’s seat, has caused a split between President Uhuru Kenyatta's team and that of his deputy William Ruto.

A source close to the Presidency, who spoke on condition of anonymity, divulged that Kenneth’s campaign in Nairobi had failed to kick off because of the differences between the two camps.

The source claims Ruto’s camp has vowed to block the 2013 presidential aspirant's bid for Nairobi on grounds that he will inherit the Mount Kenya vote bloc in 2022 and hamper the DP's quest to become the President.

He further adds: “Ruto’s men see Kenneth as an impediment to his 2022 quest for president. He has brought a wedge between President Uhuru and DP Ruto".

“There is a feeling among Ruto’s camp that if he becomes the governor, he will inherit the Mt Kenya vote bloc and lock out Ruto. Even the President is afraid of him and is not going with him on his tours of the country urging residents to register and vote,” the source told the Star.

Since Kenneth declared that he would vie for the Nairobi governor's seat, he has faced opposition from other Jubilee leaders who are eyeing the seat.

The leaders include Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Johnson Sakaja, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru.

Kenneth's rivals accuse him of being an outsider who has never supported President Kenyatta.
