PHOTOS: Activist Boniface Mwangi and Family Detained By Police in France

Popular Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi and his family were held by border police in Paris, France, for travelling without Schengen Visas.

Mwangi and his family were travelling from New York via Paris when they missed their flight, prompting Air-France to make changes in their flight arrangements.

They were given tickets to Fly to Nairobi via Amsterdam.

Mwangi took to Facebook to express his frustration when they were told by the border police that they could not connect to Amsterdam without Schengen Visas.

In his post, Mwangi said they spent three hours at the border police-base sorting out the issue.

When they were finally given new tickets, they were not allowed to secure a hotel for the night, forcing his family to spend the night at the airport.

An enraged Mwangi posted photos of his children sleeping on benches at the airport.

He later posted that they had finally boarded a Kenya Airways plane and were on their way to Nairobi.
