PHOTOS: Kidero's El-Nino Plan Flops

The long awaited El-Nino rains have finally hit Nairobi County and the damages already witnessed are tremendous.

Despite plans by the Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to curb the effects of the floods, the city has in the last 3 days experienced traffic snarl ups and flooded roads after the predicted showers eventually descended.

Kidero had earlier assured Nairobi residents that the county had laid down plans to ensure that the city was not caught unaware.

According to Nairobi's disaster management plan, the county had set aside Sh50 Million to mitigate the effects of the torrential rains.

Residents have, however, began feeling the impact of El Nino with 1500 pupils of St. Elizabeth School in Lunga Lunga estate sent home after their institution was flooded on Thursday hindering learning.

Drainage systems, which were to be cleared in the preparation plans, have been clogged leading to flooding on major roads including Lang'ata and Jogoo roads.
