Angry demonstrators on Monday morning took to the streets across the country protesting the brutal murder of Lawyer Willie Kimani his client and a taximan.
The peaceful demonstrations were announced by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) last week highlighting that lawyers would boycott work for one week in solidarity with the slain colleague.
In Nairobi, protesters convened at Freedom corner in Uhuru Park from where they marched to the Office of Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet at Jogoo house.
The protesters who included lawyers, activists, taxi and boda boda operators waved placards inscribed: “Ghetto youths are human beings. Stop extrajudicial killings in slums”.
They also passed by Nyayo House, infamously known for its torture chambers during former President Daniel Moi's regime, to remember the persecuted.
At Uhuru Park, Professor Yash Pal Ghai - constitutional expert - noted that the police must be held responsible as there have been numerous killings linked to the service men, with no action taken.
The protesters called for the ouster of Mr Boinnet and Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.
In Mombasa, the demos started at the Mombasa Law courts with Governor Hassan Joho and Mvita MP Shariff Nassir joining the bandwagon.
The protests were also set to take place in Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Busia, Mwingi, Marsabit, Moyale, Mandera,Wajir and Garissa.
Kimani was on Friday found dead in Ol Donyo Sabuk River together with the taxi driver, Joseph Muiruri and client Josphat Mwendwa.
