An 87-year old grandmother in Migori will be spending two months in jail after two stolen plastic chairs were found at her home.
The granny, Risper Ongwena, spent the entire December holiday behind bars after her grandson supposedly stole the chairs valued at Sh550 each, then left them in his grandmother's house before escaping.
Ongwena's family is said to have been unable to raise money for her bail or hire a lawyer to defend the mother of ten.
According to her daughter Margaret Onyango, Ongwena was sickly due to old age and her stay in jail had greatly affected her health.
Her case is scheduled for hearing on February 24, 2016 at the Rongo Senior Magistrate’s Court.
