Police Kill KDF Soldier in Dramatic Shoot Out

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was Monday morning shot and killed by police officers in Kitui County after reportedly murdering his girlfriend.

31-year-old Fredrick Mutie is said to have sprayed the lady with bullets following an alleged domestic brawl before the officers responded swiftly.

According to a neighbour, the Coast-based army man stormed the lady's house at midnight but she refused to let him in. He then left and showed up in the morning where a heated argument ensued before the girl scampered for safety.

"He followed her and sprayed her with bullets. He shot the girl several times until she died. He then dashed to another room in the compound and locked himself inside," narrated the neighbour.

Confirming the incident, Kitui Central OCPD Kennedy Osando said that he was alerted and responded with armed officers. Efforts to apprehend the suspect were hindered as he aimlessly shot to scare them.

However, the security agents retaliated by shooting inside the house killing the soldier instantly, after which they broke into the room and recovered a magazine and a rifle.

“When we ensured that he was dead, we broke into the house and found him in the bathroom holding his gun,” Osando stated.

Other reports however, indicate that the serviceman could have killed himself upon noticing the arrival of officers at the scene.

The two bodies were later taken to the Kitui County Referral Hospital mortuary.
