A woman was shot dead by police on Thursday morning after she attacked and robbed a pack of cigarettes from a motorcyclist in Nairobi.
The woman was killed alongside another man believed to have been her accomplice while attempting to sell the cigarettes at a bar in Dandora estate.
Head of Crimes Prevention Unit Noah Katumo confirmed the incident saying the two were pursued by police after the victim reported the matter.
“The victim reported prompting a police search that ended up in a bar where the suspects had spread out the stolen cigarettes ready to sell. It was there that a shooting ensued that left two dead,” Katumo was quoted by the Standard.
He also noted that a third accomplice escaped during the encounter but they managed to recover 3 guns – 2 pistols and a homemade gun with 18 bullets.
Police said the woman had previously been mentioned in other crimes within the area.
