Police Officers, 9 Prisoners Escape Death

Four police officers and nine inmates narrowly escaped death on Thursday morning, after a vehicle they were traveling in rammed into a street light post on Namanga road near Kitengela town.

According to eye witnesses, the driver of the Land-cruiser lost control of the vehicle hitting a post, before the vehicle overturned in the middle of the road.

The Mlolongo police station vehicle was transporting prisoners back to the Athi river GK prison from Mavoko law courts, when the accident occurred.

Two people who were seriously injured were referred to Nairobi.

Confirming the incident, Athi river OCPD Mtoro Kizito stated that all victims were receiving treatment at the Athi-River Hospital, and assured that no inmate escaped.

Similar incidents have in the past occurred, with inmates managing to escape after the accident.
