President Uhuru Kenyatta to Make State of the Nation Address on March 15

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to make major announcements on several issues affecting the country.

The Head of State will address a Special Sitting of the Senate and National Assembly in the event popularly referred to as “State of the Nation Address”.

According to letters sent to the Members of Parliament (MPs), the ceremony will be held on March 15.

The National Assembly Clerk, Michael Sialai, noted that the lawmakers are free to invite their spouses to the address which will take place in the main chamber of the House.

“Honourable Members wishing to invite their spouses or friends to attend this event can register their names at the Parliament’s main reception by March 9, 2017,” part of the letter read.

Sialai added that the presidential address was in line with the Constitution which states that the Head of State should pronounce himself to the nation every once a year.

The President has in the previous three years addressed the country highlighting some of the achievements his government has made.

In 2016, a dramatic scene ensued after a section of Opposition lawmakers started whistling just before the Head of State began reading his speech.

The situation was, however, controlled after the some of the MPs were ejected from the House before President Kenyatta went ahead with his speech.
