PHOTOS: MPs Blow Whistles to Disrupt Uhuru's Address

A section of CORD leaders made good their threats of disrupting President Uhuru Kenyatta's State of the Nation Address at the National Assembly.

The leaders delayed the address by blowing whistles for close to 30 minutes, contrary to the Standing Orders of the House which requires that the President be heard in silence.

President Kenyatta was unable to commence his speech following the loud disruption that began as soon as he stood up behind the microphones.

Kenyatta remained giggling while members of the Jubilee Coalition stared in amusement as the National Assembly was thrown into commotion.

House Speaker Justin Muturi intervened to calm the situation warning defiant lawmakers including ODM Chairman John Mbadi (Gwasi), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Tom Joseph Kajwang (Ruaraka), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Fred Outa (Nyando) from encouraging the act.

Following the incessant sirens from the Opposition, the Speaker ruled that Mr Wandayi, Kajwang, Outa, Mbadi, Wanga, Mbita's Millie Odhiambo and Simba Arati (Dagoretti North) be forcefully withdrawn from the premises of the house by the Sergent at Arms.

As the situation subsided, Muturi requested the Head of State to continue with his speech but the commotion still ensued, prompting Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro to order Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang' out of the House.
