President Uhuru Kenyatta is the most followed president on Facebook in Sub-Saharan Africa.
A 2016 study conducted by Burson-Marsteller, a global public relations and communications firm headquartered in New York, noted that Kenyatta was the most followed President in the region with 2.95 million followers on Facebook.
Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo and Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame follow President Kenyatta with 1.34 million and 700,000 Facebook followers respectively.
Facebook pages for the governments of Ethiopia and Botswana were ranked as the most interactive pages with 29 and 28 posts per day respectively.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi emerged the world’s most followed leader with over 40 million followers on his Facebook page. President Modi was also ranked as the most interactive president with over 169 million interactions.
Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and former US President Barack Obama were ranked as the second and third most interactive leaders with 58 million interactions and 36 million interactions respectively.
The survey also shows that the most visited institution is The White House, with 4 million check-ins, followed by the Ugandan State House with 35,000 and Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs with 35,000.
Surprisingly, The Russian Foreign Ministry, the United Kingdom (UK) foreign office and the UK Foreign Secretary, Borris Johnson are the only official government pages following US President Donald Trump’s page.
