Prosecution Evidence Against Ivory Traffickers Stolen From Kenyan Courts

Part of the 511 elephant tusks seized in Thailand one week ago was prosecution evidence stolen from Kenyan courts, Thailand officials have revealed.

According to Thailand officials they had reshipped the seized ivory to Kenya to be used as evidence against ivory traffickers, only for the same consignment to find its way back to the Asian country last week.

According to coast regional police boss Robert Kitur a team involving the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Customs Services Department and the Police among other government agencies has been formed to investigate the mystery surrounding the ivory bust.

In a report on the Daily Nation, the Director of the Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has written to the Coast criminal investigations boss Henry Ondiek instructing him to start investigations on the matter,  and is expected to file bi-weekly reports to the DPP’s office in Mombasa.
