Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga has exposed names of people he claims were executed during the International Criminal Court (ICC) cases that emanated from 2007/08 Post Election Violence.
Speaking at the Requiem Mass of the late Jacob Juma at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, Odinga decried the murder of the businessman regretting that the country was still experiencing such cases of outright assassinations.
“There is a system, a way of life and a philosophy in this country that believes in murders; that produces murderers in Kenya; that believes, wrongly, in extra-judicial killings. In the aftermath of the Post-Election Violence, a chain of witnesses were systematically eliminated through extra-judicial killings,” he stated.
According to the Opposition leader, witnesses who were eliminated include:
1. Meshack Yebei
2. Charles Ndungu Wagacha
3. Naftali Irungu alias “Marcus”
4. Anthony Mwenje alias “Noriega”
5. Njoroge Gichere
6. Timothy Mburu Gatira
7. Njuguna Gitau Njuguna
8. George Njoroge Wagacha alias “Afco”
9. Maina Diambo
10. John Kituyi
The ICC cases against Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang have since been dropped by the Trial Chamber.
During the same Mass, former Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo claimed that the people who were responsible for Juma's death were the same who killed Yebei.
Leaders and family members who spoke at the event urged the government to act speedily in unravelling the mystery surrounding Juma's murder.
