Raila Odinga Accuses Uhuru of Protecting Waiguru in NYS Scandal

The political exchanges over the infamous Sh1.6 Billion National Youth Service (NYS) scandal continued on Monday with CORD leader Raila Odinga now claiming that President Uhuru Kenyatta has been working behind the scenes, to shield former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru from being held responsible for the scam.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, Odinga indicated that Waiguru was so much protected by the President that not even calls by the Deputy President would see her prosecuted.

“So protected was Ms Waiguru by the Head of State that calls by none other than the Deputy President William Ruto for her prosecution on the Sh1.6 billion scam had fell on deaf ears,” said Mr Odinga.

The former Prime Minister described Ms Waiguru as President Kenyatta’s “protectorate” adding that the NYS scandal was the Head of State's scam.

“The protection Ms Waiguru is enjoying clearly demonstrates that the NYS scam is President Kenyatta’s scam and its chief architect is his protectorate,” Mr Odinga's statement read.

He added: “Today, Ms Waiguru remains protected from prosecution despite the many calls from even the DP for her to be charged. The only logical explanation for this selective prosecution is that Ms Waiguru is a “Kenyatta protectorate” whom the president is keen to retain even at the expense of coalition partners URP.”

Odinga further accused President Kenyatta and his deputy of reacting in anger and seeking avenues to blame CORD instead of taking decisive action on the wanton corruption bedevilling the country.

“With all the power of manipulation that we have seen Jubilee exercise over these agencies, how come they are not taking any action against the alleged corrupt people in CORD? The attempt to blame CORD leadership does not make sense as it has no control over the investigative and prosecutorial agencies. What stops Jubilee from presenting evidence and arresting CORD leaders engaged in corruption?” Raila questioned.

Raila rubbished last week's claims by State House that he was abetting graft in his coalition-controlled counties terming the accusations as signs of giving up.
