Raila Odinga Warns Nyanza Leaders, Supporters over Violent Campaigns

ODM leader Raila Odinga has sent out a strong warning message to his loyal support-base in Nyanza.

Odinga warned his supporters in Nyanza region to shun political violence, adding that such activities have continually hurt his presidential ambitions.

The former Prime Minister also cautioned aspiring leaders against hiring the youth to cause violence in political rallies.

“It’s like my own people are not concerned about my presidential bid. They know very well that by engaging in unnecessary political squabbles, this will scuttle my presidential ambitions,” Odinga complained.

Odinga added that he was concerned that other regions in the country have been supportive of his presidential ambitions but his home region of Nyanza appeared to be working hard to destroy his political goal.

“Other regions are ready to back my presidential bid, but politicians from my own backyard are busy fighting each other and propagating clan-ism over unnecessary reasons,” he stated.

Odinga advised local leaders to use their resources in marshalling support for his 2017 dream instead of engaging in petty fights.

The ODM leader has in the past had to endure bad publicity as a result of violent behaviour by his party’s supporters, particularly in the Nyanza region.

A few weeks ago, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma was caught on camera wrestling with his opponent during a rally presided over by Odinga.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga and his Homa Bay counterpart Cyprian Awiti have also been attacked by political rivals on different occassions.
