Raila Team Cancels Protests over Lucy Kibaki Death

CORD leaders on Friday announced that the planned national 'Day of Rage' against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been postponed to honour the Late First Lady Lucy Kibaki.

The Opposition had earlier declared that it would hold national demonstrations on May 2, 2016 and called upon their supporters to join them as they camp outside IEBC offices countrywide.

The demonstrations have now been rescheduled to May 9 when they will occupy IEBC offices.

The Opposition leaders also stated that the protests against IEBC would go on every other Monday countrywide, until the electoral body was disbanded and the Commissioners sent home.

At the same time, High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola ordered the Coalition to stop its plan to camp at the electoral body offices until a case filed by Jubilee leaders is heard and determined.

Justice Lenaola stated that the directive would remain in force until May 5, when the defendants listed as Raila OdingaKalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, as well as their respective parties ODM, Wiper, and Ford-Kenya would give their responses.
