Residents of Kitengela in Kajiado County have killed one of the lions that had strayed from the Nairobi National Park on Thursday morning.
In response to information that the beasts had been spotted by locals, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) confirmed that it had sent a swift team of officers to manage the situation.
“The helicopter team is also supporting a ground surveillance team deployed following a report of sighting of two lions in Oleshie, Kitengela,” KWS stated.
The incident comes just a day after a lion popularly known as Mohawk, was killed by KWS rangers near Isinya town during its wanders away from the park.
The move by the rangers was highly condemned by Kenyans and the international community who questioned why they did not use tranquilizers to sedate the animal.
However, according to reports, KWS resorted to shooting the lion owing to the serious injuries it had caused to a boda-boda rider.
KWS further claimed that it did not have a choice but to kill the big cat, after locals cornered it prompting the lion to detect danger.
