Ruto's Pilot Released, Given Tough Conditions

The pilot hired by Deputy President William Ruto, who was last week arrested for assaulting a policewoman, has been released after he appeared in court on Monday.

Captain Alistair Llewelyn was freed on a bond of Sh750,000 or a Sh250,000 cash bail by the Engineer town court in Kinangop, Nyandarua County.

The captain, who was charged with assault and creating disturbance charges, was further directed to present his citizenship, passport and travel documents before his release could be effected.

Llewelyn had been detained in police custody since Friday after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The pilot came on the spot last week after a video of him slapping and shoving a female police officer went viral on social media.

His behaviour was highly condemned nationally with the public including leaders calling for his arrest and prosecution.

Amid the public outrage, Llewelyn also lost his contract with Kwae Island Development Limited, a company that had subcontracted his services.
