School Celebrations cut Short as Student is Killed, Others Injured

Victory celebrations turned into tragedy when an accident claimed the life of a student and injured at least two others in Kwale County.

The accident took place at Waa Boys High School gate, which is just along the Mombasa – Lunga Lunga road.

According to Citizen News, the school's soccer team had just won the top most Coast region football title and the students were dancing in jubilation when the unexpected happened.

A lorry hit a salon car which then lost control and rammed into the students.

At least three students were hit and seriously injured, The Nation reports.

One of the victims- a form two student succumbed to the injuries while he was being rushed to hospital.

His family continues to grieve, as the deceased's mother had died barely a year ago.

Speaking to NTV, the school principal Rogers Mwafungo confirmed the incident saying that the excited students had gotten off the bus while the driver was waiting for the gate to be opened when tragedy struck.

The surviving students were treated at the Coast General Hospital.
