Secondary School Girls in Court for Arson

Seven secondary school girls were arraigned in a Machakos court on charges of arson.

The girls from Matuu High School were brought before Kithimani Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Opanga on Monday and accused of having burnt two dormitories in their school.

The court heard that the girls set the two dormitories, valued at Sh10 million last month.

The case is not an isolated one as incidents of students burning their schools continue spreading across the country.

Barely a month ago, five schools had dormitories set ablaze by what is suspected to be a well coordinated cartel of students with members from the schools.

Two weeks ago, girls from Stephjoy High School stunned the country when they set their mattresses on fire using potassium permanganate and in the process, ended up burning four dormitories.

The teenage girls from Matuu High School were each released on a bond of Sh100,000.

The case is set to be heard on August 17, 2015.
