Senator Murkomen Explains His Role in NYS Saga

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed an affidavit filed by former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, linking him to the loss of Millions at the National Youth Service (NYS).

Murkomen explained on Wednesday that his only association with NYS scandal suspects was providing Nairobi Businessman Ben Gethi with legal services at Sing’oei, Murkomen & Sigei Advocates (Law firm) during initial stages of investigations into the scam.

The Jubilee bigwig went ahead to deny allegations that he participated in the Sh791 Million graft , saying that his law firm did not enter into any contracts with NYS.

“I wish to also make it clear that at no time was the law firm Sing’oei, Murkomen & Sigei Advocates a contractor or supplier of NYS,” he said in a statement.

In her explosive affidavit on Tuesday, Waiguru alleged that Murkomen visited her office demanding that she stops investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and unfreeze bank accounts of companies associated with key suspects Josphine Kabura and Mr Gethi.

The Senate’s Deputy Majority leader dismissed the threat claims, asserting that he was not part of the group that had been planning to eject Waiguru from office.

“At no time did I threaten, intimidate or harass any public officer or civil servant. I’m also not aware of any police report that has been filed to indicate that I threatened anyone in the course of executing their duties,” he said.

Murkomen asked the former CS to stick to charges facing her concerning the loss at NYS and stop seeking diversionary tactics to get herself off the hook.

“Ms. Waiguru should stop resorting to diversionary tactics and pitting the coalition partners against each other. That will not work as we are above that,” read the statement.

The Senator's response came after his Jubilee counterpart,  Aden Duale, launched a scathing attack on Ms Waiguru and distanced himself from involvement in the NYS saga.
