Senators Challenge Central Bank Governor's Appointment

The appointment of Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Dr. Patrick Njoroge Ngugi has been challenged by the Senators.

Senate speaker Ekwe Ethuro faulted the appointment of Dr Njoroge, noting that it was conducted illegally since the Senate was not involved in the vetting process.

Senator Moses Wetangula and Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo have called for the review of the appointment process.

The senators, however, maintained that they have nothing against the new CBK governor adducing to his qualifications for the job.

President Uhuru Kenyatta officially appointed Dr. Njoroge on June 19 after he was approved by Parliament.

Prior to his appointment the new CBK boss worked as a senior adviser at the International Monetary Fund.

Dr Njoroge holds a doctorate degree in economics from Yale University along with bachelors and masters degrees in economics from the University of Nairobi.
