Senior Police Officer Shot at 17 Times

A senior police officer was on Tuesday night shot at 17 times dying on the spot near Kahawa West estate in Nairobi.

Inspector Michael Ziki, officer commanding Kiwanja Administration Police camp, was in the company of a civilian as he drove towards the camp when he was killed.

According to police reports, the officer was being trailed by the thugs who raced past him while shooting, killing both occupants of the vehicle.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu County Police boss said that the criminal act seemed to be purely a murder case.

“We are yet to know the motive of the shooting but it looks like a pure murder and robbery. They grabbed his gun and left after the shooting," explained Mr Mugera.

This was reiterated by another officer who described the incident as 'uncommon'.

“It seems to have been a well planned and executed murder. An AK47 rifle is a rare weapon to be used by ordinary thugs,” he was quoted in a report bt the Standard .

The killers reportedly made away with the officer's gun then shot a bodaboda rider as they escaped. The rider is said to have passed on upon arrival at Kenyatta National Hospital.

In the last few months, several police officers have lost their lives in the hands of robbers with most losing their firearms. In October, an officer responding to robbery distress calls was ambushed and shot dead at Santon area in Kasarani, Nairobi.
