'Sex Workers Killer' Gives Orders to Judge

A man accused of killing sex workers in Nakuru County was arraigned in court on Monday and caused endless drama, forcing the Judge to order a mental assessment done on him.

Ashton Wachira appeared before High Court Judge Maureen Odero and made demands regarding how he wanted to be addressed.

Mr Wachira demanded that he be addressed in English during the court session despite being conversant with Swahili.

“I understand Kiswahili perfectly but I want to be addressed in English,” he said boldly.

The suspect taunted the Judge further by strongly disowning his name while claiming he was a Muslim.

“That is not my name (Aston Wachira). I am a Muslim,” he said confidently.

The Judge, however, dismissed his antics and told him his religion was of no interest to the court.

“The court is not interested in your religion. Is that the name that people know you by,” asked the Judge, shutting him off.

Justice Odero ordered the suspect to undergo mental test at the Rift Valley Provincial Hospital and be taken to Nakuru GK Remand prison to await his next court appearance set for February 1.

Mr Wachira was arrested on Sunday after he was found transporting a sex worker, Maureen Wanjiku, in a tuk tuk. Police stopped his vehicle and discovered the woman was unconcious and had strangulation marks on her neck. She was later rushed to hospital where she was confirmed dead.
