Shinyalu Member of Parliament (MP) Lisamula Silverse Anamu has for the second time lost in repeat Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations.
Former area MP Justus Kizito Mugali was declared the winner by returning officer Bishop William Abuka after he garnered 13,904 votes against Anamu's 6,660.
Mr Anami had challenged the outcome of the earlier results claiming there were irregularities in the process which prompted the ODM National Elections Board to call for a repeat of the exercise.
The second process was largely peaceful except for an incident where a Kakamega cleric was arrested on Friday night with 10 booklets and 2400 marked ballot papers packed in a carton in his car.
Following the new announcement, Mr Anamu once again rejected the results stating that the returning officer should address the issue of the marked ballot papers.
“There were no elections in Shinyalu. We cannot accept what happened since the repeat nominations were a sham and a mockery of the wishes voters in Shinyalu. I’m holding consultations with my supporters on the next cause of action,” stated Mr Anami.
Bishop Abuka, however, argued that the results were credible and reflected the will of Shinyalu residents.
“The ODM election board gave me a job to do and I have done my best to ensure the process is credible and smooth so that voters in Shinyalu get the opportunity to express their democratic choice,” the Bishop stated.
