Shock as 2000 Litres of Illicit Brew is Seized in Moi University

More than 14 illegal bars in Moi University- main campus, during a police raid on campus grounds.

In the process, over 2,000 litres of the illegal brew were nabbed.

The crackdown was organized by Uasin Gishu County Government in conjunction with local administration police.

The move came after numerous complains about the sale of second hand generation alcohol within the grounds were presented to the university governing board by both the administration and parents.

Confirming the incident to Citizen News, the county Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Director Armstrong Rono gave a warning to all bars located less than 300 meters from the institutions.

He directed that the bars be closed down or the owners would be persecuted according to the law.

The students thanked the government for cracking the whip on illegal brews, citing that many students had stopped attending classes after becoming illicit brew addicts.

Meanwhile, over 6,000 litres of illicit brew was poured in Nairobi's Kasarani estate, after a hidden brewery was ambushed.

The raid was headed by area member of parliament John Njoroge and local police after members of the public informed the authorities of the hidden brewery.

No arrests were made as the den owner had fled the scene.

The move comes in the wake of the second phase of a nationwide crackdown on harmful alcohol.

The government has also given warning that manufacturers and sellers of the brews will be charged with murder.
