Here's Why Alcohol Brewers Could be Charged with Murder

Manufactures of alcohol that will test positive for harmful substances might be charged with attempted murder.

This follows a directive by the government to have all alcohol samples nabbed from across the country tested for the purpose of taking legal action.

The move by the government comes in the wake of the second phase of a fierce crackdown on harmful- substance- laced alcohol.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery in a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, affirmed that the government will go after all manufacturers, suppliers and sellers of any drink that will result in death or hospitalization.

He said that those found guilty face the penalty provided in the law for the charges of murder or attempted murder.

On Tuesday, the government sacked 99 chiefs and sub chiefs and 15 police officers who were linked to the sale of illicit brews.

The planned legal action comes as East African Breweries Limited (EABL) moved to court seeking to protect their products from being destroyed in the crackdown.
