State House Angered by 'Betrayal' From These Top Officials

State House is reportedly not impressed with Controller of Budget (CoB) Agnes Odhiambo, over what it considers giving the Opposition vital information to propagate propaganda against the government.

The CoB and her deputy Stephen Masha, are said to have been summoned to State House to answer claims of sabotaging the government. The two, who are signatories to any withdrawals of public funds, are accused of giving information on Sh250 Billion Eurobond money to CORD leader Raila Odinga.

It remains unclear what exactly took place at State House, with a report by the Star indicating that the President was furious with the officers due to their connection with the former Prime Minister.

In December last year, Raila stated that he had obtained information from the office of the CoB, and that the proceeds from the Eurobond had not been injected into the country. A situation that has not gone down well with the state operatives.

“I talked to her before I even went public and she told me a different story . . . she is under a lot of pressure and I actually sympathise with her. She is being intimidated and blackmailed to change that story,” Raila said during a TV interview.

Late last year, there was a sudden change of heart by the Controller of Budget on the loan repayment from the offshore account, that points to pressure from government to have them speak with one voice on the matter. This happened a day after she told Parliament that she had not approved the withdrawal of money from an offshore account where proceeds from the loan had been deposited.

However, Ms Odhiambo said that she was satisfied by the Treasury’s explanation despite not being fully involved.

Last month the Controller of Budget was admitted in hospital for weeks over what was linked to pressure from work.
