A group of students on Friday killed a 70-year old man, moments after concluding their prayers at the school mosque.
The students from Abubakar Integrated School in Kwale County, are alleged to have descended on Athman Bamama with huge sticks and stones killing him on the spot.
Bamama who lives adjacent to the muslim institution is said to have been killed over witchcraft suspicion by the school's management and students.
According to a relative who spoke to the Daily Nation, the deceased used to work at the school as a cleaner but head teacher, Mohammed Mtulu fired him.
“I remember he once came to my house and told me that the head teacher and students do not want him at the institution. A few days later, he was sacked. He was sacked after students accused him of witchcraft especially female students,” the relative said.
Bamama's body was discovered by a neighbour who found him lying in a pool of blood with major head injuries.
It is reported that the students fled the scene immediately after the mob justice.
Confirming the incident area police boss Patrick Oduma said investigations into the matter had already been launched to identify the culprits.
Oduma, however, ruled out a possibility of closing the school saying that the decision rested with the Ministry of Education.
The institution has been on the police watch list following claims of radicalisation among students by extremists with several raids been conducted in the past.
