A suspected Al Shabaab militant was on Tuesday shot by soldiers in a fierce exchange at a Kenya Defence Forces camp in Garissa.
Military Spokesperson Col David Obonyo said the suspect was badly wounded and arrested while his counterpart escaped.
Obonyo said that the two were trying to access the camp at about 1.30pm when they were intercepted by the soldiers manning the base.
“They instead responded by firing at the soldiers, who retaliated, attracting a fierce shooting in the camp,” Col Obonyo said.
The military spokesperson said that the soldiers were in pursuit of the run-away suspect adding that the situation was contained.
The wounded gunman was taken to hospital.
This comes months after KDF successfully neautralised a group of Al Shabaab militants at the Lamu Military Camp.
