Chief Inspector Dies in Machakos After Car Gets Submerged

A police base commander died on Wednesday after his car got submerged in flood waters in the Matungulu area of Machakos County.

The officer lost his life after the car he was driving got swept away by raging flood waters after River Kware broke its banks.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the officer was heading home from work when he attempted to cross the flooded road only for his car to get submerged.

His body was recovered by members of the public who quickly informed police officers of the tragic incident.

Police who quickly arrived at the scene found the car still submerged in water despite his body having been recovered from the floods.

Following his retrieval, the deceased's body was transferred to Patjud's Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.

"Efforts are still underway to retrieve his submerged car from the flood waters," read part of the police report.

In a similar incident on March 25, a police officer lost his life while trying to save pedestrians marooned by floods.

The incident happened after a slab the officer was standing on, tumbled, making him fall into the raging waters which quickly carried him away.

The officer was attempting to save four people including a woman and three children who had been stuck at a stall which had been covered by floods.

According to the police report, the officer’s rifle (AK47) loaded with ammunition was also swept away by the floods.

While confirming the incident, Nairobi Police boss Adamson Bungei stated investigations had been launched to retrieve the officer's body.
