Suspected Bandits Shoot During DP Ruto's Meeting in Baringo

Chaos erupted on Friday during Deputy President William Ruto's rally in Baringo County after gunshots from suspected Pokot rustlers rent the air.

The DP was addressing a rally when the shots were fired forcing the crowd to scamper for safety.

Earlier on, DP Ruto had suffered a major setback after a section of Jubilee supporters in the County reportedly snubbed his rally during a tour of the region.

The residents are said to have complained about being neglected by the government claiming that it had caused the recent attacks which had led to the deaths of dozens in the area.

DP Ruto flew into the area on Friday morning where he hoped to intervene in the ongoing crisis in an effort to pacify the region.

At one of the points in Kabarnet, the locals allegedly boycotted Ruto's meeting and instead held demonstrations against the government.

The residents were quoted by the Star as having maintained that they would attend the burial of one the locals who was killed in an earlier attack instead of attending the DP's rally.

They claimed that Ruto's visit would not have an impact in the region in terms of improving security.

Despite the apparent rejection, the Deputy President toured other areas in the County where he promised that rapid response team and Armoured Personnel Carriers would be sent to Baringo, Marakwet and Pokot to curb insecurity.

He is also reported to have issued a shoot to kill order on the bandits perpetrating attacks in the region.
