Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo Defects from ODM to Jubilee

Deputy President William Ruto’s latest forays into the coastal region has landed a major blow against ODM leader Raila Odinga after one of the orange party senators in the region defected to Jubilee.

Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo, who was elected on an ODM ticket, announced that he would now join the Jubilee party.

Mwazo has previously been one of Odinga’s pointmen in the coastal reguon and was even appointed as a minister when Odinga served in the coalition government.

On Monday, Mwazo was given a ride in Ruto’s chopper as the DP met Jubilee aspirants from Taita Taveta.

"Today the Deputy President picked me with a chopper from my home at Kasighau. I have accompanied him here because he has recognised me as the area lenator," he said.

He went on to heap praise on the Jubilee government over what he termed as an impressive development at the coast, adding that the Deputy President had convinced him to work with them.

"The Jubilee government has managed to tarmac the Voi-Taveta road that the Kenyatta, Moi and Kibaki administrations failed to. Let us tell our people the truth," Mwazo stated.

He added that he would be seeking the area’s gubernatorial seat in this year’s August 8 election.
