Teacher Arrested for Conducting Tuition in Kericho Hotel

A teacher was on Friday arrested after he was busted with close to 90 students in a posh hotel in Kericho town.

Kericho county education officers and security agents raided the hotel where the found the teacher conducting holiday tuition, though the practice has already been banned.

According to the officers, the unidentified tutor was coaching the girls believed to be below 15 years flouting a strict order given by the Ministry of Education against the remedial teaching.

Led by County commissioner Muktar Abdi, the officers warned those going on with the practice affirming that it was an illegality which would not be tolerated.

"We cannot allow private tuition taking place at a time when students are supposed to be at home with their parents,” he cautioned.

Abdi further divulged that all education officials had been authorised to arrest and charge anyone found breaking the law starting with the teacher who would be arraigned in court on Monday.

He warned parents about those conducting the tuition asserting that some are not qualified and are only interested in benefiting financially.

The Ministry has on several occasions insisted that the studies are illegal and taken action against several schools found in operation during holidays..
