Tenants of 5 residential buildings in Kahawa West, Nairobi had to be forcefully removed from their homes after the buildings they were living in were deemed unsafe.
Nairobi County Government officers moved into the area and ordered tenants to vacate immediately, with the owners of the buildings being asked to pull them down, failure to which they will be prosecuted.
The residents have been living in constant fear of the buildings collapsing after an audit showed that the houses were not built properly.
A report by K24 showed that some were living in houses that had already started cracking.
According to The Star, Nairobi Lands chief officer Stephen Mwangi said the five are among the 55 earmarked for demolition after an audit of 4,000 residential structures in the City.
Early in the year, Governor Evans Kidero appointed a team to audit all buildings in the city for safety following the collapse of several structures that has left over 15 people dead.
