Transport CS Michael Kamau Handed Over to EACC After Appearing In Court

Transport cabinet secretary Eng Michael Kamau appeared in court today, Thursday to answer to charges of abuse of office.

The CS is however just going to take a plea at noon and be released on bail as directed by Lady Justice Mumbi Ngugi on Wednesday.

Citizen Tv reports that Kamau was handed over to EACC officials after appearing in court.

Kamau had on Tuesday attempted and failed to stop his prosecution saying that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) lacked the quorum needed to recommend the charges against him, The Nation reports.

Kamau, the first minister to be charged with corruption in the Jubilee government was ordered to present himself in court today after after detectives of the anti-corruption commission failed to find him at home for arrest.

The embattled minister is accused along with six members of a tender committee with failing to follow procurement rules in awarding the tender for the construction of Kamukuywa-Kaptama- Kapsokwony-Sirisia road.

The six appeared in court yesterday and pleaded not guilty. They were released on a Sh600 000 cash bail each with alternative bond of Sh3 million with one surety of similar amount each.

He is among individuals in the public service named in a graft report, accused of allegedly being involved in corruption.
