Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago on Tuesday evening received Sh28 Million in aid of his 2017 re-election campaign.
Mandago had hosted a dinner that brought together over 600 guests comprising of the who is who in the county and raised over Sh28 million in three hours.
"The event was well attended, the Governor’s family, county staff, friends, politicians, business people and athletes were present," a source privy to the event told a local daily.
The guests used the event to express their gratitude to the Governor for improving business environment in the county and fighting for farmers' rights.
One of the guests, a prominent farmer, gave Sh2 Million as appreciation for Mandago's efforts in the fight for farmers' rights in the region.
A businessman identified as Joseph Wainaina mentioned that the Governor had improved the business environment in the county by installing street lights which facilitated businesses in the county to run for 24 hours.
The Governor used the event to highlight some of his key achievements in the county. Mr Mandago also indicated that he had initiated development projects in the area and needed a second term to complete all the projects he had started.
"I have laid foundation for taking Uasin Gishu to the next level. Now we are aiming to ensure every home has piped water by 2018.
"Uasin Gishu does not need a new person who will have to learn the job. We just need a second term to complete what we are already doing," Mandago stated.
Elgeyo Marakwet County Governor, Alex Tolgos on his part indicated that he had worked closely with Mandago and they both required a second term to complete their projects.
Mandago is seeking to defend his seat on a Jubilee party ticket. Other aspirants vying for the seat include Billionaire businessman Bundotich Zedekiah alias Buzeki, a Mr Felix Butit and Edward Serem.
