Uhuru Suspends Matemu, Keino Pending Inquiry

President Uhuru Kenyatta has suspended Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission chair Mumo Matemu and his vice Irene Keino to path way for an inquiry into allegations of violating the constitution leveled against the two.

This effectively disqualifies Matemu and Keino from undertaking all duties in official capacity pending the outcome of the tribunal to be set up to look into the matter.

Statehouse spokesperson  Manoah Esipisu however sought to clarify that the operations of the constitutionally established Commission which remains functional.

The move comes after the national Assembly voted 130 against 52 voted to have the two removed from office.

Matemu follows joins the list of previous leaders whose terms were interrupted in a similar manner including Harun Mwau, Justice Aaron Ringera and PLO Lumumba, making him the fourth to be removed fro office.
