The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged all motor vehicle and motorcycle owners to update their vehicle records and tax status with the authority.
In a notice on Tuesday, July 29, NTSA Director General George Njao confirmed that the authority has already opened the vehicle update tool and module on its portal, which will guide vehicle owners on how to update their vehicle records.
In order to update, according to NTSA, one will need to submit a duty record update request letter to the nearest NTSA office, which will encapsulate the contact information of the motor vehicle owner, to the authority. Once submitted, a copy of the letter will then be stamped by the authority as proof that the documents were received.
Additionally, the vehicle owner will be required to submit a copy of their IDs, the original logbook of the vehicle, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) entry document, and a duty payment receipt.
"In its undertaking mandate, the authority has operationalised the duty update module/vehicle records update tool to provide necessary support for all motor vehicle/motorcycle owners, including financial institutions, Government agencies, Insurance companies, dealers, and companies, among others," the notice read.
According to NTSA, after the updating process is complete, within seven working days, it will send a notification to the vehicle's owner to collect the updated documents.
The record update is free of charge, according to NTSA, and the vehicle owner will be required to collect the documents between Monday and Friday during working hours.
During the collection, individuals will be required to present the stamped request letter and the original ID of the vehicle owner, while for entities, an individual will be required to submit an authorisation letter from the organisation.
"The Authority aims to undertake the verification process and update the duty/records update in the service portal within 7working days. The application processing time starts when the requisite documentation is verified and received at the NTSA offices," the authority stated.
After receiving the updated records, the vehicle owner will then be required to apply for a duplicate logbook through the eCitizen account, the NTSA Service portal.
The vehicle owner will be required to provide a duty-free logbook and pay a fee of Ksh2550. The generation of the logbook will take three working days, according to NTSA.
"If contacted by an unauthorised person(s) or through an unofficial channel advising that any NTSA service application can be fast-tracked or influenced in any way, please report the matter to the nearest NTSA office or the EACC for further action," NTSA stated.
