Uhuru Talks on Phone With Kisumu Man Who Yelled at Him

A 28-year-old man from Kisumu is one lucky person after President Uhuru Kenyatta's tour in the county re-ignited his hope of ever finding a job.

Philemon Agwanda Nyagaya, took a bold move when the President stopped over at Obunga slum to address a crowd and yelled out Kenyatta's name to capture his attention.

“I was standing at one of the bumps on the busy highway. Many people had blocked the road to listen to the President. It then dawned on me that he could help me find a job.” an elated Nyagaya recalled.

Nyagaya bypassed the masses that had gathered and pressed too close to the President's security personnel who tried to block him but he could not stop shouting out, 'Rais, Rais, Rais' ( Mr. President).

His resilience finally bore fruit when the President turned to look at him and called him to his car.

"He looked back in my direction and beckoned me to go to his car," Nyagaya narrated.

"I told him how much I have struggled to get a job. His aides handed me a notebook and a pen to write my contacts," he added.

Nyagaya who talked to the Nation, explained how patient the President was after he handed his contacts, stating that Kenyatta even reminded him that he had not written his name on the note and allowed him to do so.

On the same day, Nyagaya, a graduate from St Paul’s University, gave his phone number to Kenyatta, he received a phone call at around 7pm from the President himself and had quite a long chat with the Head of State.

"Later, at around 7pm when we were still discussing the incident with my friends, I received a call from a strange line and a lady was on the other end. She asked my name which I told her and she said the President wanted to speak with me," Nyagaya recounted.

"I did not believe it until I heard the President’s voice and we started conversing. In the conversation, he asked me about my problem. He also asked me about my parents and how they were doing. In the brief chat, he said he was happy with my courageous act and said someone would call me back and I thanked him," Nyagaya indicated.

30-minutes after his talk with Kenyatta, Nyagaya received a call from a lady who asked him to e-mail his CV and other credentials to the Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki.

Nyagaya is still in disbelief and greatly appreciates the President's tour to Kisumu which became a source of blessing and joy to him.

"I am still perplexed that the President called me himself and asked for my credentials so I could get a job." Nyagaya exclaimed.
