Undercover Detectives Arrest Corrupt Officers In Nyeri

Traffic officers in Nyeri have been taken into police custody for allegedly taking bribes while on duty.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Central deputy director, Jackson Mue, said that residents of Nyeri complained about the high corruption levels along the Nyeri-Sagana highway causing them to take action.

Two traffic officers  were arrested while manning a roadblock along the high way by undercover EACC detectives.

“We undertook covert investigations and later a sting operation was conducted leading to the arrest,” said Mue on Friday.

The EACC director added that his detectives found huge sums of money in assorted denominations hidden in the officers’ pockets but declined to state the exact amount.

Mue said that  investigations were  ongoing and  the money that was collected would be used as evidence.  Mobile phones of the officers were also seized as they would be vital in the investigations .

“The officers have been booked at the Nyeri Central police station and will be charged in court next week upon completion of investigations,” he said.
