University of Nairobi (UON) Students to Hold Protests in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu

University of Nairobi (UON) students have announced a two-day protest that is set to take place in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.

Through a notice sent to the police, the students informed authorities of the massive protests against what they termed as a refusal by SONU Chairman Babu Owino to relinquish power.

According to the students, Owino was clinging on to power yet his tenure had ended on March 8, therefore, he ought to dissolve the students' Union to allow for the election of new officials.

In Nairobi, traffic is expected to be interrupted along University Way, Koinange Street, Ngong Road, Valley Road, Harambee Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Parklands Road, Kikuyu Road, Wabera Street, Riverside and Kenyatta Avenue as the students indicated their intention to use the roads during their protests.

In Kisumu, the students will use Jaramogi Oginga Road while those in Mombasa will use Moi Avenue.

They further added that during the protests, they would present a petition to UON's Vice-Chancellor, the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and the Education and Interior Cabinet Secretaries to express their displeasure.

Owino has been SONU's Chairman for the last five years and has expressed interest in vying for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat in the August 8 Election.
