University Student Drowns in Pool

A Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) student at Kenyatta University lost his life after drowning in the institution’s swimming pool.

It is alleged that Julius Obwanda had been seen loitering around the sports office an hour before the pool’s opening time.

The deceased later sneaked in to swim at the deep end where he drowned.

The university's Student Affairs Director Edwin Gimode criticised the occurrence urging students to desist from such unethical activities that may lead to loss of life.

He noted, that before official the opening time, there are no pool attendants who can save lives in case of an emergency.

Kenyatta University Student Association President, Sam Were, expressed his sorrow and that of the student fraternity following the unfortunate incident.

“We are reminding our students to adhere to the pool instructions and to avoid swimming before the stipulated time," he lamented.

The student's body was taken to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home awaiting post mortem.
