US Government Makes Sh3 Billion Donation to IEBC Ahead of the August General Election

United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec on Thursday announced that the US government has given Sh3 Billion to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to enhance the capacity for the body to conduct a free and fair election.

He added that the funds will also go towards peace building efforts and voter education to ensure that the August polls end peacefully.

Ambassador Godec assured Kenyans that the US will remain neutral, supporting neither the current administration nor the Opposition but would readily offer technical support.

"I want to assure you that the United States does not have a preferred candidate or political party. It is only the people of Kenya who will make that decision on August 8th," he noted.

The envoy conveyed that President Donald Trump was keen on strengthening the relationship and will continue to support Kenya to achieve her development goals.

"President Trump is committed to Kenya and this came out clearly during his telephone conversation with President Uhuru Kenyatta. He is committed to good governance and I want to assure you that our partnership shall continue," he revealed.

The US President called Uhuru on March 7 where he reaffirmed the strong bilateral relationship between America and Kenya.

Kenyatta and Trump discussed how they can enhance economic partnership and mutual dedication to overcome terrorism and other regional security challenges through close cooperation.
