The United States (US) has given Kenya Category One status meaning the country can now enjoy direct flights from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi, to America
The clearance was given by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) following a successful assessment which proved that Kenya had met all conditions for the approval.
Confirming the decision, US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec expressed his delight that there would now be direct flights from US to Kenya.
“We are very close & it is now only a matter of time before a Kenyan/U.S. carrier establishes direct, non-stop flights between the U.S. & Kenya,” stated Godec.
He added that the new achievement would allow the two countries to continue enjoying closer ties.
“The opening of direct flights will provide a significant boost to our already strong bilateral, economic, & people-to-people ties,” the envoy affirmed.
Speaking while hosting representatives of American Association of Travel Agents, Godec noted that he was eager to “see Americans enjoying what Kenya has to offer & to do so as safely as possible.”
Addressing the same event, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala thanked the ambassador for being instrumental in maintaining Kenya's relationship with America.
“Ambassador Godec has been very objective in the relationship between Kenya and the U.S,” affirmed Balala.
