VIDEO: Coach Ayimba Reveals How Kenya Won Singapore 7s

Kenya Rugby Sevens' coach Benjamin Ayimba has revealed some of the secret strategies they used as a team that saw their historic win at the Singapore Sevens Series.

Ayimba revealed that during the quarter finals, France sent chills down their spines when they moved their winger Virimi Vakatawa to the centre.

The impromptu move prompted Shujaa to make Collins Injera a winger as opposed to a scram half, to ensure that they had "mature heads that could make decision whenever a tackle was made and if they needed an extra person for defence".

“The two day competition was very erratic France moving Vakatawa from the wing to the centre created a lot of problems for everyone else, so all we did was make sure that if the ball reaches him, Ayodi was up,” Ayimba stated.

"And all we did was make Collins the winger as opposed to the scram half," Ayimba added.

Ayimba further revealed that since they were just from the Hongkong Series, their other plan was to ensure the boys had a lot of rest and had equilibrium to play in the Singapore Series.

The Coach added that the pressure to perform better than they did at the Hongkong tournament made the team hungry for the cup.

On Sunday, Shujaa made Kenya proud after beating Fiji, who have been the reigning champions, 30-7 to lift the coveted Main Cup in Singapore.

Ayimba noted that the win against Fiji meant that 'the wall they hit for so long had now been conquered and it will be a different story for Kenya Rugby Sevens'.
