VIDEO: Electrocuted Kenya Power Employee Narrates Ordeal

One of the Kenya Power-contracted technicians who was electrocuted alongside a colleague on Sunday has recounted the shocking incident that almost killed them.

Speaking at Valley Hospital in Nakuru County where they are admitted, Felix Odhiambo stated that they were trying to fix a manual switch after a pole was changed and was unable to do so personally, prompting him to seek help from his colleague, Peter Ongeri.

When his partner came up the transformer, they fixed the switch and while following instructions, they tried to confirm if it was intact and that was when they were burnt.

He indicated that electric current was apparently switched back on in the control room at the time they were confirming if the problem had been solved.

Odhiambo, who suffered a 10-percent burn, noted that after he was electrocuted he hugged the pole to avoid further movement.

His workmate, however, moved his body leading to more electrocution hence sustained a 50-percent burn.

Mr Odhiambo stated that he was confused for a while when he was electrocuted and could only hear people screaming from a far.

The two technicians were caught in a disturbing video that went viral on social media on Monday.

A section of the public blamed the Kenya Power for the unfortunate incident, as the electricity ought to be switched off during such operations.

However, the power distributor defended itself stating that it was an accident, which had never occured before.
