[VIDEO]: How the Government is Rescuing Heroin Addicts

The government has stepped up efforts to treat heroin drug addicts, by introducing a substance that combats the lethal drug.

Methadone, a substitute drug for heroin, is now being used as a form of therapy to get heroin users to quit.

According to the 2012-2013 Most at Risk population survey, injecting drug users stood at 18, 300 people, 92% of them being heroine drug addicts.

These shocking statistics have prompted the government to act.

In February 2015, the first methadone treatment center was opened at Mathare Mental Referral Hospital, with the second centre being set up in Malindi.

Methadone is able to help heroin users overcome untimely withdrawal systems and eventually kills the craving for heroin.

In other countries such as Spain and India, research indicates that Methadone is of significant use in helping heroin addicts recover.

Heroin, a drug made from morphine has been making rounds in the country.

Experts say that one shot is enough to get the users addicted.

Mothers have been cautioned that the drug can be transmitted to new borns through breast feeding, causing drug addiction to the young one.

Heroin drug users have been urged to get the Methadone treatment.
