A dramatic unfolding ensued near Gitungo Hotel, Limuru where the controversial 'gynaecologist' Mugo wa Wairimu was arrested.
Mugo was spotted by members of the public taking breakfast at a hotel when they decided to call the police.
The locals recognised him despite his obvious effort to disguise himself in a low cap and dark glasses.
Eliud Gitau and his colleague Westy Njoroge admitted to noticing him when he entered and ordered for a cup of tea.
The two attempted to take several photos of him so as to alert the authorities without him suspecting a thing.
The police came almost immediately to confirm the situation and that is when the locals handed him over to the police unharmed.
Police expressed their appreciation to the public for not taking the law into their hands despite a section of witnesses aggressively baying for his blood.
“We are happy that he has finally been caught because our women can now be safe,” said a resident.
Mugo wa Wairimu was later taken to the CID headquarters for further interrogation.
