VIDEO: School Rejects 'President's Boy' Over HIV Status

A high ranking school in Kajiado County has sparked public outrage after it was exposed over claims that it turned away a young intelligent boy for being HIV positive.

Naramat Academy came under fire after a news story detailing how the institution rejected Elijah Zachary Lemaiyan was aired on KTN Monday evening.

According to the boy's mother Evelyn Simaloi, her 12-year-old son had already secured admission into the institution, but after she disclosed the son's HIV status, the school later fronted an excuse explaining why they could not admit the lad.

Naramat Academy posed that the Class Six vacancy which was promised to Zachary was no longer available.

However, to ascertain whether there was indeed no vacancy at the school, KTN's Betty Kyalo posed as a parent, seeking her child's admission at Naramat Academy, to the same class Zachary was denied. Shockingly, the school Principal assured that a slot was still available, an indication that they had outrightly rejected Zachary.

The undercover team took their boy for an interview at the institution, which he passed and was granted an admission letter.

Ms Simaloi, took another chance to plead with Mr Odero, the school head, but he affirmed that there was no space in the school.

Despite the apparent revelation, the school has maintained that they did not discriminate against Zachary.

The charismatic boy contracted HIV through breastfeeding by her mother, who was raped in 2002. The 12-year-old is the UNICEF HIV champion advocating for children's rights.

Elijah Zachary Lemaiyan was first introduced to the country in September 2015, after he delivered a rousing speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, that earned him a standing ovation from Heads of State.
